ELS/Johnson City is located on the campus of East Tennessee State University (ETSU), a well-respected public university in a welcoming community in the foothills of the beautiful Appalachian Mountains. The Appalachian Trail’s natural beauty abounds along with many opportunities for hiking, ziplining, camping, skiing and whitewater rafting.

Smoky Mountain National Park is about 90 minutes from ETSU. This United States National Park and UNESCO World Heritage Site features historic sites and fishing as well as hiking and camping.

Buffalo Mountain Park is also in Johnson City. This 300-hectare nature preserve and resource area, with its steep topography and densely-forested land, is popular with hikers.

You won’t even have to leave campus to get the experience of nature, as ETSU’s more than 350 tree-shaded acres of campus make up a certified arboretum.
