New ELS Language Center Opening Soon in Bowling Green, Ohio!

ELS is pleased to announce a new Center will be opening on the campus of Bowling Green State University in Bowling Green, Ohio on March 9, 2015!

Bowling Green State University’s first-year programs are nationally recognized. U.S. News and World Report and Business Week have recognized Bowling Green State University programs in biology, business, education, English, fine arts, psychology, physical therapy, public affairs, sociology and speech-language pathology. Many of BGSU’s professors and instructors have been recognized through fellowships and awards for their research. The university is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission.

Bowling Green State University has a total student population of more than 20,000 students, including over 600 international students from 70 different countries. Bowling Green State University students enjoy a 20:1 student-to-faculty ratio, ensuring opportunities for individual attention from faculty. Nearly 80 percent of Bowling Green faculty members have the highest degrees in their fields.


ELS/Bowling Green

The new ELS Center will be located on the campus of Bowling Green State University. ELS students will have access to campus athletic facilities including the baseball field, basketball courts, gymnasium, running track and soccer field. Students will also have access to the cafeteria, computer center, library and music practice rooms.

Housing for ELS students will be located on campus. Homestays will also be available.

Bowling Green, a city of approximately 30,000 people, is located in Northwest Ohio, an approximately 30 minute drive away from the city of Toledo. The Northwest Ohio region is full of natural beauty, with parks and nature reserves creating many opportunities for outdoor recreation such as swimming and hiking. Bowling Green State University allows for year-round entertainment and events, from theater and performing arts to athletic events. Bowling Green is a small community, but it is full of restaurants and nightlife entertainment for visitors of all ages.

The city of Toledo has something for everyone – from art museums to historic neighborhoods, farmer’s markets to eclectic restaurant options. Visitors can enjoy a visit to the Toledo Museum of Art or a concert at one of the many performing arts venues, take in a Toledo Mud Hens baseball game, or marvel at the beauty of The Butterfly House, home to hundreds of species of butterflies in a tranquil garden setting.


Great Things to See and Do In and Around Bowling Green, Ohio

BGSU Planetarium
Operated by the Bowling Green State University Department of Physics and Astronomy, the BGSU Planetarium is a 118-seat public science theater that has been enriching the minds of university students, local schools and Northwest Ohio residents since 1984. In addition to astronomy classes from the university use the Planetarium as a classroom, the Planetarium also offers presentations to the public throughout much of the year. Programs include a multimedia show, a discussion showcasing the current evening sky, and weekend rooftop stargazing at the Observatory when the weather permits.

Black Swamp Arts Festival
Every September, over 60,000 people attend this free three-day art and music festival. The festival is held in historic downtown Bowling Green; artists and exhibitors line Main Street and present and sell their work, while musicians and actors entertain the audience and a diverse array of food vendors entice the crowd. The annual festival was created by community members who recognized the importance of celebrating the visual and performing arts.

Cedar Point
Located in nearby Sandusky, Ohio, Cedar Point is consistently named among the best amusement and water parks in the United States. Cedar Point is home to exciting rollercoasters, water rides and thrill rides, live entertainment, family-friendly rides and a variety of dining options. In addition, Cedar Point is located on the Lake Erie beachfront, allowing for boating, fishing or enjoying the sunshine!

The Toledo Zoo
The Toledo Zoo is home to thousands of animals, and is a must-see attraction in Northwest Ohio. The zoo has been a favorite place to visit for more than 100 years. In addition to fascinating animals and informative exhibits, the zoo also contains stunning historic architecture. USA Today has nominated the Toledo Zoo as the best zoo in the country!

The ELS Center in Bowling Green will be ELS’s fourth Center in the state of Ohio. Some of the ELS Centers within a few hours’ drive include Cleveland, Columbus, Cincinnati and Fort Wayne.
