Location
Eastern Kentucky University is a regional, coeducational, residential, public institution established in 1906 and currently serves over 16,000 students enrolled at various campuses in over 148 undergraduate, graduate, doctoral and online degree programs. The university's main campus is located on 892 acres (3.61 km2) in the heart of Richmond, Kentucky (population: 35,000). Eastern Kentucky University has been designated as a 2015 STEM Jobs Approved College. EKU is the only public institution in Kentucky to make the list and has achieved Gold Status, the highest possible rank. This designation shows how effectively EKU aligns its programs to high-demand, high-paying STEM jobs; how well it assists its students achieve their career aspirations in STEM fields; and its success in attracting and supporting diverse students and faculties in STEM fields. EKU houses one of only 12 nationally accredited Co-op and Internship program. This will ensure students have the opportunity to gain real world work experience prior to graduation. EKU also offers an AACSB accredited School of Business. Within the School of Business, EKU has created the first Bachelor's degree at a public institution in the state of Kentucky to be offered in Global Supply Chain Management. Faculty and staff have also secured Co-op and internship opportunities for students in this program as well as other programs on campus. Richmond Centre and downtown Richmond provide plenty of retail shopping, dining and entertainment experiences. Additionally, EKU is located just 25 minutes from Lexington, Kentucky metropolitan area and 90 minutes from the major metropolitan cities of Louisville, Kentucky and Cincinnati, Ohio. Housing
All single, full-time, undergraduate students under the age of 21, having fewer than 60 university credit hours, or less than four academic semesters are required to live in 1 of 14 university residence hall facilities.
Student life
EKU has over 200 student organizations serve the variety of student interests. For the athletic inclined student there are a variety of recreation centers that offer basketball, racquetball courts, indoor and outdoor swimming pools, tennis courts, personal fitness equipment, running tracks, intramural sports fields and group fitness classes. EKU is located near numerous outdoor recreation areas for backpacking, hiking, canoeing and camping. The University provides seven different locations for food service ranging from full buffet style dining to 'grab and go' meals, snacks and drinks.
