California State University Chico is located 90 miles or 145 kilometers north of Sacramento, the state capital, in a safe, friendly community of 100,000 residents. The campus is in the downtown area with easy access to banking and shopping. The 48-acre campus was established in 1887. Average Temperatures Low (winter): 35º F High (summer): 93ºF


There is affordable student housing within easy walking distance of the campus. Also, students ride the local bus system free of charge with student ID card. Apartment complexes border the university as well as rental houses shared by students.

Student life

It's an active campus community that encourages student involvement. A twenty-four hour computer lab is available to students; free tutoring is also available for international students in the ESL Resource Center for help with writing, grammar, listening, speaking, diction and reading. There is easy access to professors, an average class size of 27 and student / faculty ratio of 21:1. A state of the art library, modern campus student center and Wildcat recreation center (the WREC), 240 sponsored student groups and more than 500 annual concerts, festivals, events and exhibits.
