Established in 1892, Central Michigan University, located in Mount Pleasant, was originally founded as a school for teachers and Business Education. In addition, you can get involved beyond the classroom in one or several of CMU’s nearly 400 student organizations. CMU has a professional police department that is staffed 24 hours a day, 365 days a year and is dedicated to making campus as safe and comfortable as possible for all students, faculty, staff and visitors. CMU’s park-like main campus covers 480 acres, but it seldom will take you more than a few minutes to walk from class to class. Campus features modern campus housing, championship college sports, a constant selection of events, eclectic dining and breathtaking natural beauty that is completely “Pure Michigan.” Winter average low: night time 14 F ( -9.8 C), daytime 29.8 F (-1.2 C) Summer average high: 79.9 F (26.6 C)

Student life

There is more to college life than just classes and studying. That's why there is always something to do on CMU's campus; from joining a fraternity or sorority, to volunteering at a fundraising event with program-specific organizations such as the Physical Therapy Student Organization. One will have many opportunities to explore interests through CMU's 400+ student organizations. If athletics is your game, you can cheer on the CMU Chippewas in a football game or join a team with friends and enter an intramural basketball tournament. You also can choose from a wide variety of concerts, plays, comedians, exhibits and lectures throughout the year.
