Location

Founded in 1867, Clarion University is part of the State System of Higher Education and has a long tradition of advancing academic excellence and shaping professional careers. The university enrolls more than 6,000 students from 31 states and 40 countries. Clarion University is located in northwestern Pennsylvania, just a 2-hour drive from Erie and Pittsburgh. The peaceful wooded countryside and surrounding hills offer a visually pleasing and serene atmosphere. Within a few blocks of the Clarion campus are downtown Clarion: stores, restaurants, churches, a medical center and all necessary services. A hospital, shopping center and several hotels are also close by. Housing


Many students live in one of three types of University housing; traditional residence halls, residence hall suites or Reinhard Villages (apartment-styled housing). On-campus students can choose from several meal plans, which can be used at the cafeteria or on-campus snack bar.

Student life

The Office of International Programs (OIP) provides a full range of support services to international students including an intensive and comprehensive orientation program, with an opportunity to meet the University President and other key administrators; advice on immigration-related issues; counseling; on-campus employment opportunities; internships, external scholarships; employment requests; foreign exchange issues; cultural adjustment and immersion; and study abroad opportunities available at international universities.

Clarion University has more than 130 student organizations. Numerous indoor and outdoor recreation opportunities include basketball, soccer, tennis, badminton, canoeing, horseback riding, bicycling, hiking and climbing, camping, ice-skating, and cross-country skiing.

On-campus healthcare is available to all Clarion University students, and a full service hospital facility is located very close to the campus. Opportunities exist for research and leadership experiences for all students. The off-campus student apartment complex, offers suite-style housing with cooking facilities. Both on-campus residence halls and off-campus accommodations are fully equipped with internet and computer services and provide the opportunity for international students to reside with an American roommate. Additional facilities include the Gemmell Student Complex, the university bookstore, computer labs located in many campus buildings as well as residence halls, a radio station and a new dining facility with food court style service.
