Location

Inspired by its founding in 1954 to serve the educational needs of the immediate area, Coastal Carolina University (CCU) has grown to become a mid-sized regional comprehensive university with a strong liberal arts and sciences foundation. Located 12 km from the resort destination of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, which annual hosts more than 14 million tourists, the university offers an ideal learning environment and access to a wide range of cultural and entertainment opportunities. More than 9,900 students from the USA and from 59 other countries participate in the challenging and engaging academic programs on the campus. The university's five colleges - Business, Education, Humanities and Fine Arts, Science, and University College - offer 67 majors at the bachelor's level, 8 master's programs and a Ph.D. program in Coastal and Marine Systems Science. The University is regionally accredited by SACSCOC, and many individual colleges and majors are also nationally or internationally accredited. CCU is proud to be the recipient of numerous awards, including being named as a Lead Institution in Civic Engagement nationally and named as 9th in Best Value in the South by U.S. News and World Report's Best Colleges ranking for 2015. The most popular majors at the undergraduate level are Marine Science, Management, Exercise and Sport Science, Communication, and Biology. At the graduate level, our Master of Business Administration, Master of Arts in Teaching, and Masters in Coastal Marine and Wetland Studies are all popular programs, as is our new .Masters of Sports Management Program. The institution embraces a strong commitment to experiential learning through student research, community service, study abroad, internships, and more. Housing


Coastal Carolina University's on-campus housing boasts nine different living communities. Over 3,700 students call the various communities home, making on-campus living a diverse and lively experience. The proximity to their classes, the comfort, and the social atmosphere are just some of the benefits awaiting their arrival! University Place is located half a mile from the main campus. Campus shuttles run every 10 to 20 minutes on the weekdays, so getting to main campus is no issue. Housing nearly 2,000 students in apartment-style buildings, it offers an Activity House that's equipped with an exercise and fitness center, an outdoor pool, social rooms with wide screen TVs, basketball and volleyball courts, outdoor grills and picnic tables. Each apartment is furnished with a washer/dryer, refrigerator, microwave, dishwasher, stove, disposal, upholstered sofa and chair, kitchen table and chairs. Located at the Blue Ridge/Piedmont activity house is the UP Cafe where meal plans and CINO cash are accepted. Living in University Place has numerous advantages, among them, the added comfort of a full kitchen and the extra space. International students are directed to five of the communities which have separate bedrooms and private bathrooms within 3 - 4 bedroom apartments that include full kitchens, living room, and other amenities.

Student life

Coastal Carolina University provides a variety of services that support student success. Award winning faculty lead students in research, community service, study abroad, internships, performance and creative activities that have brought national recognition to the university. Students and faculty enjoy an inspiring cultural calendar with numerous plays, musicals, performances, and discussions. A tradition of community interaction is fueled by more than 180 student clubs and organizations that encourage academic excellence, leadership, community engagement, and personal growth. The local area provides more than 100 golf courses, theatres and clubs, world-class shopping, exceptional restaurants, and 90 km of beaches, making the area a popular, yet affordable resort destination. Students have access to a wide range of services and facilities on campus, such as a library and information open 24 hours a day during academic sessions, multiple research labs, writing and student success centers, multiple performance halls, a recording studio, Atheneum Press and multiple student produced publications, an extensive fitness facility, nationally competitive sports teams . In addition, Coastal Carolina recently received a national award for its civic engagement programs that bring students to the community to help out in many different ways through organized programming. Students also have access to campus apartment style housing within walking distance (or a quick shuttle ride!) away from classes. The campus is also located in one of the top resort destinations in the USA. With 90 km of coastline, over 100 golf courses, and a vibrant community, the destination enables much in the way of free time activities, as well as engagement with community organizations. Coastal has an active student-led international club and intercultural learning community encourages new international students, as well as Americans, to take part.
