Founded in 1872, Concord University (CU) is a public, liberal arts institution located in Athens, West Virginia with more than 2,100 students enrolled. CU's 123-acre picturesque campus has been called "The Campus Beautiful" for its scenic location on a knoll overlooking the mountains in the area. Concord University is renowned for its academic rigor and offers 80 areas of study, including popular areas of business, computer science, education, communications, and biology. CU offers a 15:1 faculty to student ratio with small classes and faculty who professionally experienced. CU also offers students the opportunity to participate in research projects or gain experience through internships. CU also offers an on-campus ESL program for students who need English proficiency prior to starting classes. Concord University is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission. Concord University is located in the heart of the state's top outdoor recreational area where skiing, whitewater rafting, snowboarding, hiking, mountain biking, kayaking, camping, golfing, and other outdoor recreational opportunities are abundant. CU is a 90-minute drive from the West Virginia capital of Charleston and a three-hour drive from Charlotte, North Carolina.


More than 1,000 students live in three residence halls featuring community living areas and suites. All residential housing facilities are wired for cable television and internet and include study lounges, television lounges, kitchens and laundry facilities. Lounges and public areas are also hot spots for wireless connections. Students can dine at multiple facilities on-campus.

Student life

Concord offers more than 70 student clubs and organizations, a student government, socially active Greek life with fraternities and sororities, and pre-professional societies. Concord University’s Student Activities Committee is a campus organization that sponsors many events each semester, including comedians, lecturers, musicians, and other entertainers. CU also offers NCAA Division II athletics as well as eSports.
