LeTourneau University is a private Christian university, and its main campus is located on 162 acres in Longview, Texas. The campus is nestled among beautiful pine-forested hills and lakes, characteristic of East Texas, just two hours east of Dallas, Texas. LeTourneau was founded by R.G. LeTourneau, an inventor, businessman, and devout Christian. R.G. LeTourneau's wife, Evelyn, suggested that an old Army hospital complex be turned into a school to help educate returning World War II veterans, and in 1946, LeTourneau Technical Intitute was founded. By 1989, the newly accredited LeTourneau University was offering four-year degree programs in engineering, technology, liberal arts, business, aeronautical science, education, and the sciences and master's degree programs in business and education. Now, LeTourneau University enrolls over 2,700 students and offers more than 90 undergraduate and graduate programs in Aviation and Aeronautical Science, Engineering and Engineering Technology, Teacher Education, Business and Technology, Arts and Sciences, Health Sciences, and Theology and Vocation. LeTourneau is accredited by THECB. Longview, Texas, where LeTourneau is located, is a medium-sized city with a population of over 81,500 people. Longview has mild weather year round with an average 46.5 inches of rainfall each year and less than 2 inches of snow. In summer, the average high temperature is 92 °F (33.4°C). In winter, the average low temperature is 38°F (3.7°C). Longview has its own symphony, opera, ballet, museums, cinemas, theatres, walking trails, hot air balloon race, and art and music festivals. Though not as large or cosmopolitan as its neighboring Dallas, Longview offers a variety of shopping, eating, and entertainment options as well as legendary East Texas friendliness and Southern hospitality.

Student life

LeTourneau University's programs, activities, and events are designed within a Christian worldview, aiming to develop students intellectually as well as spiritually. With that goal in mind, LeTourneau provides a solid, challenging education and also a welcoming, Christ-centered community. From start to finish of a degree program at LeTourneau, students are surrounded with opportunities to build relationships, sharpen their understanding and expertise, and form important connections between faith and work.
A vibrant campus and residence life program help students feel safe and at home at LeTourneau. Athletic events and activities, such as intramural sports, allow students to participate in "friendly competition" and provide entertainment for sports fans, while various student clubs and organizations engage students in community service, career development, and help engender a fun and meaningful community environment. Student Services also provides the academic support a student may need when studying in one of LeTourneau's many rigorous programs of study. All in all, LeTourneau's campus environment develops the student as a whole, engaging the mind, body, and spirit, and providing students with the support they need to lead successful and meaningful lives.
