Founded in 1911, LMU is a highly regarded, medium-sized comprehensive university. Consistently ranked among the "Best Universities" in the Western Region by U.S. News & World Report, LMU balances a challenging Liberal Arts and Sciences curriculum with outstanding professional programs at the graduate and undergraduate levels. Loyola Marymount offers a number of engaging and exciting academic programs including 60 majors, 55 minors, 39 master's degrees, one doctoral degree and 10 credential programs. LMU students engage in research projects and work closely with faculty mentors starting as undergraduate students. Many majors including Business, Film and Engineering are ranked nationally and internationally. Students have the opportunity to explore the stunning natural setting on campus and around the city or to experience the excitement of places like world-famous Hollywood, scenic Malibu or downtown Los Angeles, where Loyola's Law School is situated.

Housing

LMU offers traditional residence halls, suite-style halls, apartments, and houses for theme communities (ie "International House of People" and "Service & Action House").

More than 94% of each first-year class lives in student housing where they are part of a safe, diverse and dynamic social environment that helps establish community and build friendships. About 60% of the total student body population lives on-campus and many students choose to live on-campus throughout their years here because of the convenience and active campus life.

Student life

At LMU, education reaches beyond the classroom. Residential living, state-of-the-art recreational facilities and athletic and cultural events help shape the total person. More than 160 student organizations reflecting academic, cultural, professional, service and social diversity all enrich the university experience.
