Founded in 1852, Mills is a top-ranked liberal arts and sciences college for women with graduate programs for women and men. We offer a challenging learning environment that empowers students to become creative, independent thinkers. Located in Oakland, California, in the heart of the San Francisco Bay Area, Mills offers you the resources, security, and comfort to focus on your education. You’ll have access to beautiful residence and dining halls; well-equipped classrooms and laboratories; studios for artists and performers; and a library, concert hall, art museum, gym, and outdoor pool. These facilities support our students, faculty, and staff who are passionate about using their talents to create a better world.
Mills is nestled among the Oakland foothills on 135 acres of serene meadow, oak-lined streams, lush greenery, and award-winning architecture. Living on campus connects you with people and resources that will help you flourish at Mills. We provide a range of housing choices from traditional residence halls to family apartments. All of our housing options include 24-hour secure entrances, wireless Internet access, laundry facilities, and kitchens. All rooms (with the exception of those in the family apartments) are furnished with a twin bed, desk, dresser, bookcase, and chair per student.
At Mills, you’ll have the world at your fingertips. On campus, you’ll be able to join one of our student-run clubs and organizations; participate in athletics, physical education, or recreational activities; or attend special academic, fine arts, and community events. Off campus, you’ll have access to cutting-edge cultural, intellectual, dining, and outdoor excursions and the opportunity to visit some of the most iconic destinations in the world—including the Golden Gate National Recreational Area, Napa Valley, Lake Tahoe, and Yosemite National Park. As a global center for innovation in the arts, science, and technology, the San Francisco Bay Area is also home to a wide range of international organizations and innovative start-up companies in Silicon Valley and beyond that provide opportunities for Mills students to gain hands-on work experience and land great jobs.
