Northland is a private, liberal arts and sciences college with a unique emphasis on the environment and sustainability.


There are a variety of housing options ranging from traditional residence halls, townhouses, and apartments, to the McLean Environmental Living and Learning Center featuring environmentally sustainable features such as wind and solar power, furniture, building supplies from recycled materials and a composting toilet. A variety of meal plans are offered, some even including groceries and recipes so students can cook in their residence halls.

Student life

Intercollegiate athletic competition in baseball, softball, basketball, soccer, hockey, golf, cross country, and volleyball - NCAA DIII. Musical organizations include vocal and instrumental ensembles and a civic orchestra in which students and faculty participate. Students also have opportunities to be involved in on-campus clubs and organizations, intermural athletics, theme houses, and student government.
