SUNY-ESF's campus is located in a vibrant urban setting adjacent to Syracuse University, a large private university with which we share many academic resources, including cross-registered classes and concurrent degree programs. Our main campus is only 12 acres in size, but we are officially the largest university campus in world, with over 30,00 acres We are located in the heart of New York state, within easy driving distance of a weath of recreational outdoor opportunities including hiking, biking, camping, fishing, skiing, snowshoeing, snomobiling, and much more! Outside the immediate central New York area, most of the major metropolitan areas in the eastern USA and Canada are within less than a day's easy drive over interstate highways, including New York City, Boston, Philadelphia, Baltimore, Washington, DC, Toronto, Ottawa, Montreal, and Quebec City.
Additional housing options (apartments, flats, and singl-family residences) are available at less cost in off-campus privately owned housing.
The ESF campus community is small, but set within the much larger and very diverse "university hill" district of Syracuse, including Syracuse University and SUNY Upstate Medical University. More than 2500 international students call the "hill" home, coming from all around the world and representing all ethnicities, religions, and economic backgrounds. University Hill is set within the City of Syracuse, a diverse community of more than 350,000 residents in the metropolitan area.
