Location
Founded in 1883, Stetson University is Florida's oldest private university. With nearly 4,000 enrolled students, the main campus is located in DeLand, Florida, 25 miles from Daytona Beach, and 35 miles from Orlando. DeLand is a small picturesque town with about 30,000 inhabitants. Stetson University's satellite campuses are all located in Central Florida: St. Petersburg, Tampa and Orlando. A model of academic excellence, Stetson was ranked #3 in the year 2012 for "Best Regional Universities--South," according to U.S. News & World Report. Stetson is accredited by the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges to award bachelor's, master's and Educational Specialist degrees in the College of Arts & Sciences. In addition, Stetson offers both bachelor's and master's degrees in the School of Business as well as bachelor's degrees in the School of Music. It also boasts a small average class size of 20 and a 12 to 1 student to faculty ratio. Merit-based scholarships of $5,000 to $29,000 are awarded to international students (ELS Graduates) for Undergraduate study. DeLand reflects the architectural and cultural heritage of Florida's past. Beautiful historic landmarks can be found on the Stetson campus and in the surrounding downtown area. Restaurants and small shops reinforce the feel of a traditional small American town. Stetson is conveniently located in downtown DeLand, so students have easy access to all that the city has to offer. The DeLand campus has 255 full-time faculty members, 94 percent of whom hold Ph.D. or equivalent degrees. Orlando, where the Stetson Celebration and ELS are located, is only about one hour from DeLand. Orlando has more theme parks than any other city in the world. The Atlantic Ocean beaches are only about 40 minutes away from DeLand. Average Temperatures: Low (winter): 55°F/13°C High (summer): 82°F/28°C
Housing
Almost 75% of Stetson's students live on-campus in eight residence halls, six fraternity and five sorority houses and other special-interest housing such as pet-friendly dorms and foreign language house. Double rooms are common and single rooms can be arranged upon request, given availability. Most residence halls include microwaves, laundry facilities, TV lounges, cable TV access, and kitchen facilities. All buildings are air-conditioned and provide study and lounge areas. Full food service is provided at two campus-dining locations.
