The University is located in the heart of the Telecom Corridor that is home to major employers such as AT&T, State Farm Insurance, Samsung Mobile and Bank of America, among others. Richardson offers all the benefits of a small city with easy access to a major metropolitan area. Four interstate highways connect Dallas to the East and West coasts, Mexico and Canada. Dallas Love Field and Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport offer Dallas residents passage to more than 200 cities, including 50 international locations. The University offers free DART (Dallas Area Rapid Transit) passes to all students, which makes it easy to get around to local attractions including the Dallas Zoo and the Fort Worth Zoo, Fair Park, the Fort Worth Stockyards, the Dallas Museum of Nature and Science, and world-renowned art museums that include the Kimbell Art Museum, Amon Carter Museum, the Dallas Museum of Art and the Nasher Sculpture Center. Some other interesting venues are the Dallas World Aquarium, the American Airlines Center and the State Fair of Texas. Major sport teams include the world-famous Dallas Cowboys, the Dallas Mavericks, the Dallas Stars, the Texas Rangers and the FC Dallas soccer team. Student housing offers several affordable living choices on campus for those who appreciate the advantage of being able to walk from their residence to class. All housing is reserved for UT Dallas students and offers a variety of floor plans and prices. The residence halls, ideal for high school graduates, features three-bedroom suites, a variety of recreation areas, large communal spaces and eight study lounges. Four bedroom apartments are also available to freshman. Housing for sophomores can be found at the University Village and Waterview Park apartments. UT Dallas Residential Life staff members work with students to build community in University Village. They also assist students with concerns related to living on campus. New residence hall opened August 2013 and August 2014.
From writing the alma mater and the fight song to founding the Greek System, the cheerleading squad, the Power Dancers and the student radio station, or helping design the freshman residence hall and campus dining facility, UT Dallas students can make a difference. UT Dallas has over 300 clubs and student organizations,13 competitive athletic teams, 21 National Greek-letter fraternities and sororities and five Living Learning communities.
