Celebrating their 50th anniversary this year, Hawai¡¯i Pacific University (HPU) combines the excitement of an urban downtown campus with the serenity of a residential campus set in the green foothills of Oahu¡¯s Ko¡¯olau Mountains. The city of Honolulu is ranked one of the safest and cleanest cities in the country and Hawaii is one of the most beautiful and culturally vibrant states in the nation. HPU is an excellent university with outstanding rigorous academic programs taught by faculty who are passionate about teaching and renowned for the personal interest they take in their students. HPU is also recognized as the most diverse university in the nation according to a 2013 online study conducted by College Factual, and earned a 91.4% overall diversity score with factors related to ethnic, gender, and geographic diversity. In U.S. News and World Report¡¯s annual review of colleges, ¡°Best Colleges 2014,¡± Hawai`i Pacific University is ranked among the top Regional Universities in the West. A student to faculty ratio of 14 to 1; professors with work experience in their fields of instruction; and an average class size of less than 20 combine to provide students with personalized attention in and outside of class. With tuition costs well below the US average for private universities, HPU is ranked among the top 50 private, comprehensive universities in the Western U.S. and is among the top 20 masters universities in America in international enrollment. It is no wonder why HPU is top destination for study abroad students from other countries. Average Low Temperature (Winter): 78¢ªF / 25.6¢ªC Average High Temperature (Summer): 85¢ªF / 29.4¢ª
"Residence Halls (On-Campus) Hawai'i Pacific University offers residence halls on the windward Hawai'i Loa campus and at Aloha Tower, downtown Honolulu, for students who enroll for both fall and spring semesters. On-Campus housing includes room and board (14 meals per week). The application deadline is in early April.
On-Campus housing (rooms are shared by two to five students) is generally enjoyed by students in their first year of study. It is not required.
Off-Campus Housing (Non-University Sponsored) There are several housing options offered by third-party providers. Please email email@example.com for a list of properties accepting students."
Despite its identity as an urban campus community, the students of Hawai¡¯i Pacific University have created a vibrant campus life of over eighty (80) student organizations ranging from athletic to scholastic, cultural to interest-based. These campus organizations are only part of the experience for HPU students; however, as the island of Oahu and the metropolitan community of Honolulu offers students many opportunities to engage with local culture, lounge at the many beaches of the island, take part in community service and enjoy the views following scenic hikes to greater heights.
Annual events include Club Carnival, Welcome Week (at the beginning of each semester), Da Freakshow (a talent show), Halloween Hoopla, Paina at the Pier and Intercultural Day. Beginning in Spring 2015, incoming students are able to take part in a traditional Hawaiian luau at the Polynesian Cultural Center, located on the famed North Shore of Oahu.
Starting in August 2015, HPU¡¯s new downtown residential complex - Aloha Tower Waterfront Lofts - will also feature a first floor of student multipurpose space, allowing student organizations to meet with ease on university property. Nestled right on the shore in downtown, this new community space will continue to add to the campus experience of HPU students for years to come.
Through a variety of student clubs and organizations, student government (ASHPU), community volunteer projects and a host of social, educational and cultural activities that display HPU¡¯s commitment to diversity, every student at HPU has the opportunity to develop his or her full potential and supplement their education with an extracurricular experience unique to Hawai¡¯i.
