California State University, Fresno was founded as Fresno State Normal School in 1911, became a teacher's college in 1921, and has offered advanced degrees since 1949. Student life

At Fresno State, through recognized student clubs and organizations, the student body can engage in major specific or intergrated student associations/activity. Student affairs provides services, programs and co-curricular educational activities that give students the opportunity to develop skills and expand their knowledge. Leadership roles are available through appointment processes. Community service through volunteerism is supported through our Community Engagement and Service-Learning Center. A new Student Recreation Center provides facilities, equipment and services to help students maintain their health through physical exercise. Off-campus religious churches / centers are within close proximity to campus and offer a number of religions.
