Location

Founded in 1929 Santa Monica College is located on the beautiful coast of Southern California in the city of Santa Monica. The college occupies 18 hectares of lush ground and is 3 kilometers from the beach. The campus boasts one of the largest international student populations of any community college in the nation with 3,400-plus from more than 100 countries. Santa Monica College is accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges. The college offers more than 60 degree and certificate programs, including a vibrant Business program with internship opportunities at the Port of Los Angeles, in Santa Monica and in Los Angeles, programs in General Science and Mathematics with access to state of the art labs, Fashion Design and Merchandising Programs, Film and Theater Programs and many, many others. Students can take a break from their studies at the outdoor Third Street Promenade which includes restaurants, theaters and shops. The famous Santa Monica Pier and the beach bike path are popular destinations, as are The Grove outdoor shopping mall, Universal Studios and Disneyland. On the weekend, students may travel to Big Bear Mountain for skiing in the winter and hiking in the summer. The local Santa Monica and Malibu mountains also offer trails for hiking and biking.
