Skagit Valley College (SVC) is located in beautiful Mount Vernon, Washington, midway between the metropolitan cities of Seattle, Washington, and Vancouver, B.C., Canada. It is fully accredited by the Northwest Commission on Colleges and Universities and has been in operation since 1926. SVC has approximately 4,000 full time students with about 193 international students from 20 different countries. At SVC, students will find small classes, personal attention and state-of-the-art facilities in a safe, small town environment. International support services include a full time International Programs Office, free tutoring services, on-campus and homestay housing options, academic advising and transfer counseling. Skagit offers a strong transfer degree program, a variety of technical programs, and an intensive English program. SVC graduates have successfully transferred to four-year institutions both within Washington and across the United States. As SVC students, they have many opportunities to become involved in a variety of extra-curricular clubs and activities that can enhance their education. Some options include student government, college athletic teams, and a variety of clubs depending on your interests. Washington's moderate climate offers year-round sports and recreational activities such as skiing, snowboarding, hiking, golfing and kayaking. Average Low Temperature (winter): 34°F/1.6°C Average High Temperature (summer) 72°F/22.3°C
On-campus residence halls and homestays are available. The residence halls are apartment style shared by four people and include a kitchen, living area and bathroom. Each student has his or her private bedroom. The residence halls are a three-minute walk to campus.
In homestays, students are placed with reliable families who are prescreened and carefully selected. A student gets his or her own private bedroom and the option to choose from a traditional homestay with all food included or a room-only option. Homestays are within 45 minutes of the campus.
International students at Skagit Valley College (SVC) can join any of 24 student clubs or college-sponsored activities and can choose to become involved in student government. There is also a very successful Conversation Partner Program which matches international students with American students for conversation practice once a week. The International Programs Activities Coordinator arranges various activity opportunities throughout the year such as trips to Seattle, movie nights, volunteer projects. The area around the school also offers many opportunities during the year for outdoor activities such as skiing and snowboarding, hiking, camping, and much more.
