University of Illinois Springfield is the liberal arts campus of the world-class University of Illinois. About 5,000 students enroll each year seeking a U of I degree but also the intimate learning environment of a private college. UIS offers 52 degree programs which enroll freshmen through doctoral students. About 50 percent of students are undergraduates and more than 1,200 students learn entirely online. Located in the state capital of Springfield, UIS has a special mission in public affairs and has produced thousands of leaders in government and non-profit organizations in Illinois. U.S. News & World Report has ranked UIS with the top 15 best public university in the Midwest for the past 10 years.
Students who choose to live on campus are housed in up-to-date residence halls (freshman) or modern apartment-style units or townhouses. One-, two- and four-bedroom, furnished and unfurnished apartments are available.
The wide variety of on-campus apartment housing ranges from shared-bedroom accommodations to a private bedroom in a four-person, four-bedroom apartment.
There is an International House on campus as well as an International Host Family Program.
