ELS Educational Services, Inc. and Jiangsu University Sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to Expand On-campus Language Center

ELS Educational Services, Inc. and Language and Culture Center of Jiangsu University (LCC) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) agreement to work toward establishing an ELS Language Center on the Jiangsu University campus.

ELS will deliver English training and related services to incoming international students, and existing domestic and international students, and enhance Jiangsu University's worldwide brand recognition and international student recruitment ability via ELS’ global recruitment network.

Jiangsu University has recognized the need for an English Language Center on their campus for international students looking for opportunities in China and for Chinese students exploring opportunities abroad.

The ELS Language Center will deliver English programs to Jiangsu University faculties and staff including English preparation for students looking to study abroad. The Language Center will also organize study abroad programs, including short term exchange/summer programs for students and faculties of Jiangsu University, and other opportunities in education.

The ELS Language Center on the Jiangsu University’s campus is scheduled to open in 2017. The proposed Language Center will also have the potential to assist students from other Asian countries such as Bangladesh, India, Japan, Korea, Nepal, Sri Lanka, Thailand and Vietnam.

The MOUs were signed at the U.S. Consulate General office in Shanghai and witnessed by Mr. Hanscom Smith, Consulate General of the United States of America in Shanghai, China and Mr. Frank Joseph, Commercial Officer, among other dignitaries. Mr. Mallik Sundharam, Vice President – Business Development, and Ms. Xing Ming (Elva), Vice General Manager – China, of ELS Educational Services, signed the MOUs on behalf of ELS. Dr. Xiao Fei (Ren), Dean of the School of Liberal Arts; Director of Language and Culture Center at Jiangsu University, signed the MOUs on behalf of LCC.

Jiangsu University is a comprehensive teaching and research university in China with 24 schools, offering 88 undergraduate programs in 10 academic fields as well as 42 doctoral programs. Jiangsu University has over 2,400 faculty members, 450 of which are professors. 54% of Jiangsu professors hold a Ph.D. in their field. The university enrolls over 33,000 full-time students, over 800 of which are international students from 74 countries.

Both LCC and ELS will discuss the proposed collaboration further and arrive at the terms of business in the coming months.
