Named after John McNeese, a pioneer Southwest Louisiana educator, McNeese offers outstanding educational opportunities and a dedicated faculty and staff which have made McNeese one of the most highly accredited universities in the South. At McNeese, over 8,000 students can choose from more than 70 degree programs offered by the Colleges of Business, Education, Engineering and Technology, Graduate Studies, Liberal Arts, Nursing and Science. McNeese State University is located in Lake Charles, Louisiana, one of the fastest growing cities in the state. Southwest Louisiana offers a large variety of cultural and natural attractions. Lake Charles is on the I-10 corridor, making the city accessible to large cities such as Houston, Texas and New Orleans, Louisiana. The city is also served by a regional airport with daily jet flights to Houston. Numerous clubs, functions and unions, as well as athletic, social and academics, offer many opportunities. The athletic teams are very strong and have attracted national attention. The newly constructed recreational complex and computer labs offer state-of-the-art facilities and are open to all students. There is an active International Student Association, representing students from 50 different countries. McNeese was one of the first universities in the nation to offer courses in Innovation Engineering that teach students in all majors how to create, communicate and commercialize ideas, products and services. The recently opened SEED Center is home to the university's student business incubator and high-tech interactive Innovation Lab.
