Location

Slippery Rock University (SRU) is a state-owned institution founded in 1889. The 600 acre campus is less than an hour north of downtown Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, one and a half hours south of Erie, and 45 minutes east of Youngstown, Ohio. Slippery Rock is a safe, relaxed small town community flanked by rolling farmlands, forests and sparkling glacial lakes. Historic and modern buildings blend a sense of tradition with the latest technologies. Recreational opportunities abound both on and off campus in a variety of settings.

SRU students have several housing options to choose from: Traditional Residence Halls (North & Rhoads) and the Residential Suites. There are several room types - Triple or Double in Traditional Halls. The Residential Suites boasts single, double or quad style suites with bathrooms included. Flexible meal plans available.

Student life

Seventeen NCAA Division II men's and women's sport teams. Over 160 student organizations are available, with focus on culture, academics, performing arts, journalism, sororities/fraternities and governance to name a few. And if you can't find an activity to match your interest, our Student Life staff will assist you in creating an organization to meet your needs. SRU also offers more than 30 club and intramural sports programs such as badminton, ice hockey, martial arts, soccer and volleyball. For those students looking for an adventure there are additional opportunities to explore the outdoors through kayaking, canoeing, hiking, camping, caving and skiing. All SRU students have membership to our student recreation center with swimming pool, running track, fitness center, climbing wall and five multi-use courts for a variety of sports.
